Chess, Chinese Food & Comedy w/ Eli Lebowicz: A Nittel Nacht Celebration
Thursday, December 25, 2025 • 5 Tevet 5786
6:00 PM - 9:30 PM108 Noble StCelebrate Nittel Nacht with a classic Jewish twist: Learn Torah, sharpen your chess skills, enjoy some top-notch Chinese food, and laugh the night away with standup comedy by Eli Leibowitz.
Rooted in the centuries-old Christmas-Eve tradition where Jewish communities stepped away from learning Torah, Nittel Nacht became a time for playful pastimes — and in America, it’s evolved into the beloved custom of eating Chinese food and hanging out together while the rest of the world does Christmas.
We’ll open the evening with friendly chess games and tournaments for all levels — from bold beginners to seasoned strategists — followed by a festive spread of Chinese favorites. Then, sit back and enjoy a comedy set by the hilarious Eli Leibowitz, bringing humor, holiday irreverence, and perfectly timed punchlines to round out the night. Join us as we celebrate community, culture, and comedy — just the way our bubbes and zaydes might have done (if they had General Tso’s).

Originally from Chicago, Lebowitz started while working as a vendor at Wrigley Field. As a student at Yeshiva University, he won the school’s standup comedy contest in 2009 and was the co-creator and head writer for “The Quipster,” Yeshiva University’s first satire publication. Since then, he has taken his self-deprecating style to communities all over the United States and did a tour of shows across Israel in 2019.
