As we enter the season of light, we are thrilled to officially launch the Greenpoint Shul’s Chanukah Campaign: Light Up North Brooklyn. Today we are excited to announce a generous matching grant, meaning your gift will be doubled, helping us expand our impact across North Brooklyn at a pivotal moment for Jewish life.
Why This Matters Now
North Brooklyn is home to one of the most vibrant, diverse, and spiritually open Jewish communities in the country. With more than 66,000 Jews living between Greenpoint and North Williamsburg—including families, seekers, children, creatives, professionals, and multi-cultural households—the opportunity to build meaningful Jewish life here is extraordinary.
Yet, despite this tremendous potential, there is no ongoing non-haredi synagogue in the area that offers daily and weekly services, pastoral care, life-cycle support, community learning, and inclusive spiritual community for Jews of all backgrounds.
This is the Shul we are building.
The Greenpoint Shul is uniquely positioned to serve as the spiritual, communal, and educational center for North Brooklyn—a Jewish home that welcomes the diversity of our neighborhood and honors the many ways people express and experience their Judaism.
Our Ethos: Lighting the Way for All
At the Greenpoint Shul, we strive to engage individuals from all walks of life—including those who may not typically find themselves in a synagogue—offering a warm, open space for exploration, connection, and meaning. We welcome everyone who seeks community and spirit, regardless of race, ethnicity, faith background, or level of observance.
Our work is animated by five core Jewish values:
- Ahavas HaBrios – Love of Creation: Honoring every human being and the natural world as reflections of the divine.
- Ahavas Torah – Love of Torah: Opening access to the wisdom, depth, and joy of authentic Jewish learning.
- Ahavas HaShem – Love of God: Creating space for prayer, spiritual growth, and healing.
- Ahavas Chesed – Love of Kindness & Justice: Caring for one another with dignity, compassion, and responsibility.
- Ahavas Yisroel – Love of Jews and Their Loved Ones: Building a community where difference strengthens unity and where every person’s light adds to the whole.
These values fuel every Shabbat service, every class, every pastoral conversation, every children’s program, and every moment of connection.
