This Friday night services at our shul will begin at 6:30 and last around 45 minutes.

Saturday morning services begin at 9:00.
The weekly Torah portion is Parshat Beshalach: The Shabbat of Song – Splitting of the Sea
The rabbi will not be giving his regular drasha due to the extended Tu B’Shevat Seder that will be taking place following services.

Seuda Shlishit: Next Shabbat afternoon February 6, we resume with Seuda Shlishit we are gather to eat a little, sing a little and talk about Jewish issues. We will meet at 4:45 at the rabbi’s house next shabbat. The rabbi will give a series of short classes on the Book of Esther – Megillat Esther.

Tu B’Shevat Seder  – Shabbat January 30 at 11:30 am (approx) following services. Come join us for a seder on the Jewish Arbor Day. The seder will include conversation and rituals about spiritual and religious connection to the ideas of growth, consumption and responsibility. Get ready for 4 cups of wine, but no matzah – fruit instead!

Sushi Saturday night, Jan. 30 - 7 p.m. at the Greenpoint Shul
Learn how to make sushi! This informal class will teach you about preparing vegetarian sushi rolls and will include instruction on how to make the rice, cut the nori (seaweed wrapper), and how to assemble it all. We will be making vegetable sushi – no fish. Whether you’re an expert at making sushi, or if you’ve never picked up a sushi mat before, we hope to see you there! All ingredients will be kosher certified. The class is FREE, and all materials and food will be provided.

Hebrew Level II - The Hebrew class takes place Mondays, at 7:30. Level II will look at shabbat prayers as a way of learning vocabulary, grammar, prefixes and suffixes. The (free) books have arrived. It is not too late; if interested, please contact the rabbi at rabbi@greenpointshul.org If you are interested in learning how to read and missed Level I – please contact the rabbi for when the next round will take place.

Cocaine Anonymous – CA meets at the shul on Tuesdays 7:00 – 8:00. CA is non-denominational but we are happy to that Jews who are suffering from drug addictions an opportunity to attend meetings in a shul rather than a church. As a Jewish community it is crucial that we are a supportive community giving space for people to recover. Please spread the word.

Talmud Class – continues on Wednesday nights 7:30 – 8:30. We gather around a table, eat some cake and learn some Talmud. The classes meet at the rabbi’s house; email him to attain his address. No prior experience necessary.

The Kiddush this week is being sponsored by Jon, Sophie and Eve Becker simply because they felt it was “their turn”.

Keep in mind, that for any honor, memorial or other significant event (Souper Trivia!), you can always commemorate it by sponsoring the weekly kiddush.

*Save the Date* Scholar-in-Residence: R’ Dov Linzer, Rosh Yeshiva and Dean of YCT Rabbinical School (the yeshiva R’ Maurice graduated from) comes to the Greenpoint Shul on the Shabbat of February 20. Don’t miss it – he is brilliant.
