The Greenpoint Shul
Rabbi Maurice Appelbaum

Everyone's Jewish journey is different. Our shul
provides an environment of encouragement,
excitement, and openness to everyone, of all  ages
and backgrounds and at all levels of observance.

In addition to our Shabbat services (which take
place every Friday night and Saturday morning)
and our holiday services, the Greenpoint shul is the
site of numerous other events and activities. We
offer classes in beginner's Hebrew and
intermediate Hebrew geared at teaching people
how to lead Friday night services.  We are hosting
two 12-step-programs, Cocaine Anonymous and
Alcoholics Anonymous, to assist and support those
suffering from addiction. We are also currently
building an eruv - an enclosure that would permit
carrying on Shabbat.

Prior to services every Friday night and Saturday
morning, short classes are given to help assist
those who are looking to become more comfortable
with the prayer service.  Our aim is to make prayer
accessible to everyone who wants to participate.
Our synagogue is also very kid-friendly so please
be sure to bring along your children!

Rabbi Maurice Appelbaum joined our
congregation on September 1, 2009. He comes to
the Greenpoint shul with a wealth of experience
in leading services, reaching out to diverse
constituencies, and working with young people
and those with disabilities.

Orthodox rabbinical school Yeshivat Chovevei
Torah now located in Riverdale. He is a native of
Brooklyn, NY, and after high school, he spent a
